Ultrasound Update

So I had my appointment yesterday. Of course, they have to do a pregnancy test first, which came back positive. Then they got me in a did an ultrasound. I told them that I’m not 7 weeks as my LMP would suggest because I ovulated late and am more like 6 weeks and a few days. Well, this time, it’s not just an empty sac! There is a baby forming in there and we even saw flickering on the screen which suggests that baby’s heart is beating! That was such a sight to see. I could see the flickering myself and that was what I was really hoping to see even though I knew it may still be a little early.

My dr said the first milestone would be seeing a heartbeat which he was satisfied with yesterday. The second would be reaching the 2nd trimester - then he would start to relax and feel more comfortable (notice, no mention of me feeling more comfortable). But I must admit that I do feel a lot better now. It’s more real. It’s sinking in. Now I have the image of a heartbeat to keep in my head vs. the image of an empty sac that I had last time that I just couldn’t get out of my head until yesterday. :)

So I do go back in 4 weeks and we will do another ultrasound then. My husband is planning to go with me to that appointment so that will be great. At that point we’ll probably do measurements to set a date since I say I O’ed late and my LMP would give a different date. The dr did agree that I look more like 6 weeks than 7 at this point.

So needless to say, I am very happy right now! Here is the picture we got yesterday

It’s quite different from what we saw last time at about the same gestational age (ignore the red arrow):
