Whew - for the past week I’ve been having quite a few Braxton Hicks contractions every day. I have quite a few throughout the day that aren’t very noticeable. Then each day, I have a number of really nice ones. You know, the ones that make you sit up and take notice. Ones that I’m able to practice relaxing through. Ones that make me not want to move because I know how uncomfortable moving would be during one of them. Sometimes I’ll have about 4 Braxton Hicks contractions in about 15 minutes, then nothing for half an hour. It’s amazing how they just disappear.
I’m keeping a closer eye on them than I ever have before for a few reasons. One is that I don’t want to just assume that I won’t go into preterm labor because I never have before; especially knowing that my mom had preterm labor in 3 out of her 4 pregnancies. The other reason is just to get as familiar as possible with what’s going on with my body.
Anyway - I’m hoping that all these contractions make for a quick labor as my last three have been. At any rate, they remind me that I’m getting closer to meeting this baby. I have a feeling that these last weeks of pregnancy are going to be the slowest of the whole thing. The rest of the weeks seemed to move so quickly that I was hoping the end would too. No such luck. It’s still not completely dragging, but I have a feeling that as I get closer and closer, the time will seem to drag by more and more.

Yes, I remember those lovely contractions! For weeks before they felt real enough. I really only knew my contractions were real when I timed them one morning and they were so close together. They were then accompanied by so much mucous plug gook, and then blood. I knew when I saw the blood it was real. The plug didn’t give me the final clue but did help as it was SO MUCH gook. Sorry so much info, but it’s what helped me to know, plus my anxious feeling. You are getting closer if the contractions are getting your attention, that’s for sure!
