So, on an off topic, my husband and I are thinking of moving. Moving to a place where we’d have more space and possibly be able to lower some of our bills by selling the place we’re in and buying another which, hopefully, won’t be a bigger mortgage than what we have now.
Anyway - there’s a LOT about our house that is NOT in “ready to sell” condition. Our garage is a total mess. There is sooooo much in there that I can’t even begin to think about making it showable. Then there’s the bathrooms…none of the toilet paper roll holders was installed very well and the rolls always fall off so we don’t use them. We’d probably have to put in new ones. Then there’s the shower head in our master bath. Someone broke it, so it’s just water coming out of a pipe. We’d have to take care of that. Our yard in the back has a bunch of spots that’s just dirt. We’re slowly beginning to put grass back in, but that won’t be complete any time soon. Our son has scribbled on the wall by our front door with a black Sharpie. The kitchen sink isn’t hooked up for hot water. I want to replace the stove’s drip pans because the ones we have are all stained and stuff. Then there’s the carpet. It’s light colored and was pretty badly stained when we moved in. We didn’t bother to re-carpet because we wanted to wait until our youngest was about 5 before we invested in a new carpet. We’ll…since we’re still having kids, we obviously didn’t re-do it and have added a number of stains of our own. So the carpet really is terrible and we can’t afford to replace it before we sell. Sooooo, I’m thinking a carpet credit would be in order for our buyers.
Anyway - bottom line is that there is a LOT of work to do before we can get this place into sale able condition and my husband wants to start working on it soon! I guess I’ll just have to do a little at a time and see how far we can get. I really want to get boxes and just start packing things up in the garage so that it’s just boxes we can stack up and that way we can clean easier. But boxes also cost money. The last two times we moved we were able to get boxes for free. Unfortunately, I don’t think that’ll be happening this time around.
Truthfully, I’d really like to get these things done. But I also don’t want it to stress me out. Maybe I should just make a list of things do to and just start plugging away, slowly by slowly. It’ll be a lot easier for us to make an offer on a new place if we sell this place first and have cash on hand. BUT - that also means living somewhere else in the time between when we sell and when we buy. Renting would be an option if we didn’t have dogs. The most likely scenario is moving back in with my in-laws during the transition. But their house is already full and I really don’t want to have to stay there long. It’s not that I don’t like them. I love my in-laws, but I really like living in our own space. I guess we just have to do what we have to do to make things work though.
Wish us luck!
