First Dr. Appt

So today I had a dr. appt because I had to finish up my well woman exam anyway. A urine test at the dr’s office did confirm that I am pregnant. It always seems so much more official when you do the test at the dr’s office. Anyway, after that, we tried to do a transvaginal ultrasound, but didn’t see anything.

My OB wants me to come back each week until they are able to confirm the pregnancy through ultrasound. I was worried about a possible eptopic pregnancy and will be until we actually do see something. But what I’ve learned is that this type of ultrasound usually detects pregnancies at about 5.5 weeks gestation. Tomorrow would make 5 weeks, but only 3 weeks gestation. So we may not see anything for a few weeks yet.

Also, on the way home from the dr’s office I remembered that I’m quite sure I had implantation bleeding - “Implantation bleeding occurs when the trophoblast, or tissue that surrounds the egg, attaches to the endometrium and slowly eats its way into the lining. As it does so, it eats through the mother’s blood vessels, forming blood lakes within itself. When these blood lakes form near the surface of the trophoblast, they often cause implantation bleeding.”

Based on this definition, I don’t think you’d have implantation bleeding unless the egg is implanted in the uterus because the uterus is the only place with the blood lining.

Anyway - I’ll try not to worry too much, but I’ll certainly feel much better when I can see that things are going as they should via the ultrasound.

Oh yeah, and I lost a pound since my last dr visit which was about 3 or 4 weeks ago. My blood pressure was okay though, 110/70.
